Their Light, Our Future

Their Light, Our Future is a portrait series of 25 small acrylic paintings on canvas board that celebrates the radiant joy of Black children. Each portrait is a tribute, infused with the spirit of a Black hero—some legendary, others whose stories are still waiting to be widely heard.

Building on the themes explored in my previous works, Princesses and Princes in Disguise and The Pain of Slavery, this series turns toward light. While honoring the weight of history, Their Light, Our Future centers joy, strength, and the boundless potential of the next generation. These faces are not only shaped by the past—they are guiding lights toward a future we build together.

The series will be exhibited at Vrij Paleis in Amsterdam, the Netherlands this fall (2025)
